Online dictionnaries and games
Here is a user friendly online bilingual dictionary. It offers many possibilities in terms of languages and it also gives a exhaustive list of context in which the word can be used, or variation of translation based on the context as well as idiomatic expressions in which the word is used.

The next step after a good bilingual dictionary is an all English dictionary. This is particularly important when ethymology or further knowledge is needed while searching for a word. I suggest Merriam Webster, a well reknown dictionary, thesaurus encyclopedia and much more, now available online!
Do not forget to use the speaker icon... you can hear the word and how it is suppose to sound

The Oxford dictionary offers interesting alternative such as online word games like hangman!
